Counselling Personal And Family Support: There are normally 3 visits to the center in a week. We try to involve family members in the counseling sessions.
Special efforts are made in the case of adolescents to involve the mother and to have direct interaction with her and to give appropriate guidance on positive parental attitude, purchase & presentation of food, parental modeling of eating & support for active leisure pursuits. Sometimes group counseling sessions are arranged for mothers of adolescents where they get an opportunity to brainstorm and share their child’s problems and exchange ideas and to resolve issues of concern with the help of the nutritionist’s expertise.
In case of a married client we normally counsel along with the spouse to ensure complete co-operation and success of the program. A willing and supportive spouse ensures better chances of continuous adherence to the program.
To ensure that the VLCC Wellness Program is effective we try to involve the entire family and if need be we even consult the family physician to provide services in a completely holistic manner so that the desirable results can be achieved in a specified time period and are sustained over the years.
Behaviour Modification: Keeping all these factors in mind an appropriate program is evolved to ensure appropriate behavior modification and weight control.
This behavior modification is imperative to achieve desirable and sustainable results. Intensive counseling sessions during the program and thereafter, help bring about positive changes in lifestyle accompanied with healthy food habits, thus preventing regaining or recycling of weight.
We help Alcohol drinkers and Smokers also to make appropriate behavior related modifications. We consider them not only contributory factors for central obesity, but also for cardiovascular problems and insulin resistance which is associated with obesity.
Behavior modification helps, especially the adolescents who are about 2.2 % of the total clients at present with VLCC, to improve their body image and become more confident in coping with the adverse peer pressure of being overweight/obese, in enhancing their self esteem.
